About Me

Hi. I'm Paul Eilers and I write DoYouBelieveNutritionMatters.com. I started blogging in 2005 to help others who want to take charge of their health, like me.

When I was in college, my grandfather died of cancer. A few years later, a friend of mine died of leukemia when he was only thirty-two years old. Then my father died of cancer after being on oxygen for eight years. I decided I didn't want to end up like that.

I have a friend who is now ninety-six years old. But when she was seventy-five, Mrs. Gravely's health was so bad her family considered a full-time nurse.

Then one day, a friend educated her about health and nutrition. So she changed her diet and added whole-food nutritional supplements to her daily routine. It took two years, but gradually Mrs. Gravely turned her health around - and never did get that nurse.

These experiences started me on the path of wanting to know more about nutrition and how it affects our health. I read books, listen to audios and read onli…

Who is Paul Eilers?

I'm from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, which is sixty miles east of Raleigh and a two hour drive to Atlantic Beach.

In 1986, I graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High (has it been that long?). I played football, was on the newspaper staff and active in several other things.

But for the most part, I was an average, everyday student.

Off To College

After high school, I didn't know what I wanted to do for a career. I figured I should go to college to find out. I also wanted to continue playing football.

Eventually, I ended up six hours away at Lees-McRae College, located in the western mountains of North Carolina.

This was the first time I had ever been away from home for any extended length of time.

During the fall semester, I was quite homesick. Thankfully, football occupied much of my time and class work kept me busy.

In December, I returned home for Christmas break. After a few days, however, I was quite bored and ready to return to school.

Afterwards, I never did get homesick a…

My Philosophy on Health

DoYouBelieveNutritionMatters.com is based on the principles of homeostasis - when the body is balanced it is in a self healing mode, and when it is out of balance it is on the degenerative disease path.

Many factors influence homeostasis, including the foods we eat and our ability to handle stress. When we eat whole foods the way they are found in nature and not processed foods full of chemicals and preservatives, the body is fed at the cellular level. The result is health, well being and vitality restored.

The Standard American Diet is meat, dairy, white flour, white sugar and caffeine. These foods are all acid foods that contribute to the rise in heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity. Disease lives in an acid environment. When we eat foods that are more alkaline, like fruits and vegetables, our body chemistry changes and we are less susceptible to disease.

When we focus on building our immune system with a healthy lifestyle, our body is better able to resist disease. We need t…
