How To Lower Your Risk For These Two Cancers

Most people think cancer just happens. Yet studies show that many cancers are environmentally caused and can be largely avoided.

For example, a chemical added to processed meat products is responsible for a 6700% increased risk in pancreatic cancer, according to research at the University of Hawaii. Cigarettes are not even that bad! The study was led by Dr. Ute Nothlings and was announced at the annual gathering of the American Association for Cancer Research.

In addition, a review of another study indicates that the more processed meat you eat, the more likely you are to develop stomach cancer. Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, salami, ham, and smoked or cured meat. The review looked at forty years worth of studies on the relationship between these meats and stomach cancer. Some of the studies examined hundreds of thousands of people.

Processed meat consumption among study participants ranged from less than 1 gram of processed meat per day to more than 56 grams. Higher processed meat intake was associated with greater stomach cancer risk, especially for bacon. However, factors other than processed meats may also be involved.

So if you want to significantly lower your risk for pancreatic and stomach cancer, avoid all processed meats.
