Nutrition For Kids Doesn't Have To Be Hard

Eat more fruits and veggies. We've all heard it. And we know it's true.

Even the World Health Organization, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society agree.

And though studies conclude that fruits and vegetables help reduce the risk of obesity, sickness and more, most kids still don't consume enough of them on a daily basis.

The main reason? Moms and Dads simply don't have time.

That's why there's BarleyLife® Xtra. It's an easy way for kids to get nine to eleven fruits and veggies every day - plus a lot more.

There are eighteen fruits and vegetables in BarleyLife® Xtra. It's full of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. It's high in antioxidants (cancer fighters), chlorophyll (healer of sick cells) and phytochemicals (plant medicines).

And because it's made from food, there are no negative side effects and your kid's body knows exactly what to do with the nutrients.

Many childhood sicknesses can be traced to un…

Something To Think About

"Six of the ten leading causes of disease - heart disease, cancer, strokes, diabetes, hardening of the arteries, and scarring of the liver - can be traced to unhealthy nutritional habits." - Unknown

Four Foods To Avoid For Weight Loss

If you need to lose weight and want to do it as quickly as possible, you should avoid the following four foods foods:
Soy - This includes soy milk, soy protein isolate and tofu. These are essentially junk foods, with many of the same effects on your body as estrogen. Wheat - Most people have some degree of wheat/gluten intolerance, which can cause you to feel yucky. Wheat also increase insulin production, which causes weight gain.Soft Drinks or Juices - Soft Drinks are essentially pure sugar, contain High Fructose Corn Syrup and zero nutrition. It spikes your blood sugar, causing it to be out of whack, which causes food cravings.Fried Foods - These foods are full of trans fats, which causes inflammation, cell membrane damage and more. Do you really need those chips or donuts? So for the best results in your weight loss efforts, as well as overall health, you should always avoid these four foods.

How Many Servings A Day Do Your Kids Need?

Children two to six years old as well as women who are not very active - 5 servings: 2 fruits, 3 vegetables

Older children, teen girls and men who are not very active - 7 servings: 3 fruits, 4 vegetables

Teen boys and active men and women - 9 servings: 4 fruits, 5 vegetables

Kids who get enough nutrition every day decrease their risk for things like ear aches, allergies, colds and the flu. (For adults, it's heart disease, cancer and stroke.) They also maintain memory function, eyesight, strong bones and more.

Keep in mind too little of our food is eaten raw. Cooking at temperatures over 120 degrees kills much of the nutrition in most foods. We're trying to achieve the impossible - maintain health while eating food that does not support health.

You may be thinking:
"My kids won't eat that many fruits and veggies every day.""I don't like buying, washing and cutting them up, only to see them rot in the fridge.""My kids simply don't like the tas…

Low-Carb verses Low Fat

Following are three referenced articles in three well respected journals

1. March 7, 2007 - The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published an article showing that, at twelve months, women assigned to the Atkins (low-carbohydrate) diet lost more weight and experienced more favorable metabolic effects than did women assigned to follow the LEARN, Ornish or Zone diets.

2. July 17, 2008 - The New England Journal of Medicine published an article describing a two-year study of men and women in Israel. The study showed that, compared with the low-fat diet, the low-carbohydrate diet produced greater weight loss and had more favorable effects on lipids. The authors concluded that low-carbohydrate diets may be an effective alternative to low-fat diets.

3. August 3, 2010 - The Annals of Internal Medicine published an article describing a two-year low-carb vs. low-fat study of men and women in the United States. The authors concluded, "Successful weight loss can be achieved w…

Natural Healing

"Natural healing is not about avoiding doctors. It is about not needing to go to doctors. A dentist is not upset if you are cavity-free. A doctor should not be upset if you are healthy." - Dr. Andrew Saul

What's Wrong With "Natural" Supplements?

Natural is not the same as whole-food based.

There is no FDA definition of "natural". So all kinds of products can be labeled "natural" and still be useless or even harmful for consumers. What's worse, the FDA will leave it undefined for the time being. This is a problem for everyone using the term to label their products:

"A lack of a uniform approach to the [natural] term has resulted in inconsistent product claims, consumer confusion, and even lawsuits against food companies accused of misleading consumers." - Lorraine Heller, FoodNavigator-USA.com

The trouble with "natural" is a company can start with a natural source, like a plant, then heat it so much that the enzymes die. They can also add chemicals or other artificial ingredients and still call it "natural". That's why the word has no meaning.

Supplements only have to be ten percent natural in order to legally make this claim. That's why more than ninety-five perce…

Is Losing Weight Unhealthy For You?

We all know there are unhealthy ways to lose weight. But according to this article, losing weight itself may be unhealthy for you. Seriously.
An international team of scientists found that toxic pollutants, which are stored in fat, release themselves into the bloodstream when fat dissipates. The chemicals, called persistent organic pollutants, are linked to degenerative diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. - Reuters Health The research team followed 1,099 American participants, tested their blood, and found concentrations of seven potentially harmful pollutants.
Once released into the bloodstream, these pollutants are able to reach vital organs, said the researchers. While I agree it's unhealthy to lose weight the wrong way, the benefits of weight loss, especially when done the right way, far outweigh any potential harm.

Do You Suffer From Daytime Fatigue?

Seventy-five percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated and suffer from daytime fatigue. This means you likely need more water in your diet.

Dehydration is one of the main reasons people run out of energy during the day. It can also cause symptoms such as nausea, stomach aches, and confusion.

Drinking at least eight servings (8 oz.) of water each day will increase your energy and help you metabolize fat easier. Toddlers should drink two to three ounces of water per hour and older children should drink four to six ounces per hour.

Among the significant benefits of water is that it can help ease back and joint pain for eighty percent of those individuals who suffer.

In fact, only five servings of water a day help reduce colon cancer by forty-five percent and cut the risk of bladder cancer by fifty percent. Not to mention it can cut your chances of breast cancer by seventy-nine percent.

Start the day out with a pitcher of water filled with your target amount. Then, you will be able …

Is Pizza a Part of a Well-Balanced Diet?

From the website of Pizza Hut:
"Pizza can be a part of a well-balanced meal. Ingredients in our pizzas include protein, complex carbohydrates, Vitamin A and calcium. And, depending on the toppings you choose, our pizzas have items from all of the four major food groups – meat, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, and grains!"How can empty carbs, processed with chemicals, be healthy? Or help you maintain or lose weight?

And for dessert, have some Pop Tarts, because they're fortified with iron and niacin!

What's next? Cocoa Krispies to fight the flu?

Stretching For Good Health

If your muscles are stiff, your joints tight and you tend to have aches and pains all over your body, then a few stretching exercises may be the key to help you stop the pain and slow down the aging process.

Yes, flexibility and aging tend to go hand-in-hand. Show me someone who is stiff and inflexible and I'll show you someone who is aging far faster than necessary.

On the other hand, show me someone whose muscles and joints are loose, pliable, supple and flexible and I'll show you someone who is defying gravity, someone who's turning back the clock and living a life of high energy and vitality.

So what are you waiting for? Let's go do some stretching!

Acupuncture as Medical Treatment

"Acupuncture has been in practice for 2,000 to 5,000 years. It is no more experimental as a mode of medical treatment than is the Chinese language as a mode of communication. What is experimental is not acupuncture, but Westerner's understanding of it and their ability to utilize it properly."

– United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Andrews v. Ballard, 1980

Are Carbohydrates Necessary for Good Health?

In their book, Protein Power, Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades write, "The actual amount of carbohydrates required by humans for health is zero."

In other words, there is no such thing as a necessary carbohydrate for good health.

They go on to say that every cell in the human body has the ability to create its own sugar or energy. Therefore, carbohydrates, especially in the quantities generally consumed today, serves only to damage the internal environment of the human body.

So what do you think? Are carbohydrates necessary for good health?
