Does Death Begin In The Colon?

Fiber is essential for proper digestion and elimination. Sadly, the typical American diet is lacking in this area: we are only getting between 5 -10 grams daily instead of the 30 - 60 grams most of us need. Fiber acts as a bulking agent and speeds the transit time of food in the digestive tract. These actions prevent metabolic waste from creating toxic by-products.

A major benefit of fiber is it binds acids to bile and carries the bile along with excess fats out of the body. Fiber helps to lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, improve blood sugar, and promote the growth of friendly intestinal flora. It also promotes bowel regularity, aids digestion, and helps to keep the bowel clean.

Without sufficient fiber, there is an accumulation of partially digested food in the bowel. By middle age, many people have as much as 20 pounds of undigested, putrefactive food in their colon. Toxins produced from this putrefactive buildup are reabsorbed into the bloodstream, creating autointoxication, or self-poisoning. This results in a dramatically weakened immune system and leads to serious debilitating health problems, including colon cancer, the most prevalent cancer in the United States.

At a meeting of the Royal Academy of Physicians of Great Britain, fifty-seven leading physicians identified thirty-six different kinds of poisonous substances that form in the large intestine. As mentioned above, they are reabsorbed into the bloodstream and have a detrimental effect on the body. Below is a summary of their findings:

"Ninety percent of all disease and discomfort is related to an unclean colon - due to impacted fecal matter. It may be said that almost every chronic disease known is directly or indirectly due to the influence of bacterial poisons absorbed from the intestine. The colon may be justly looked upon as a veritable Pandora's box, out of which come more human misery and suffering, mental and moral, as well as physical than from any other known source.

The colon is a sewage system, but by neglect and abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean and normal, we are well and happy; let it stagnate, and it will distill the poisons of decay, fermentation and putrefaction into the blood, poisoning the brain and nervous system so that we become mentally depressed and irritable: it will poison the heart so the we are weak and listless: poisons the lungs so that the breath is foul: poisons the digestive organs so that we are distressed and bloated, and poisons the blood so that the skin is sallow and unhealthy. In short, every organ of the body is poisoned, and we age prematurely, look and feel old, the joints are stiff and painful, dull eyes and sluggish brain overtake us; the pleasure of living is gone."

What else can be said? We need to make sure we get enough fiber in our diet, along with probiotics, prebiotics and digestive enzymes, if we're going to prevent disease and be healthy.
