The Health Care Debate

Your doctor, your health insurance and your government cannot make you healthy. Only you can do that.

It all starts with the proper feeding of your cells - by eating real food, drinking water, getting enough sunshine and the right amount of sleep.

If the needs of your cells are properly met, then ultimately a new, healthy and strong cell will be reproduced.

Now that's real health insurance.

Rocky Mount Woman Relives Miraculous Flight

"Though it happened 30 years ago, Janice Gravely still travels around the world from her home in Rocky Mount to tell her story about how she crash-landed a plan when the pilot, her husband, suffered a heart attack."

My good friend, Janice Gravely, not only survived this plane crash, but she also turned her health around after she was educated about health and nutrition. To learn more, read, "She Never Did Get That Nurse."

Eat Fat from Avocados for Good Health

Avocados are a true superfood. Some claim this high-fat fruit is the single best daily food to improve your health and slow down the aging process.

Avocados are a good source of protein and essential amino acids. You need to get essential amino acids from your diet because the body can't make its own. Avocados are also high in fiber and furthermore, do not contain antibiotics or hormones, like what's found in many animal proteins.

In addition, avocados are a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids, which are the good fat your body needs. Avocados contain no cholesterol and boost your HDL ("good") cholesterol level, which regulates triglycerides and helps prevent diabetes. Healthy fats also help protect your heart, brain, joints and more.

Avocados are also an excellent source of carotenoids (plant medicines). Whenever you eat carotenoid-rich foods, you deliver first-class vitamin A to your body. This protects your eye health and enhances your immune and reproductive heal…

Cell Damage, Superoxide Dismutase and BarleyLife®

Every cell within the human body contains mitochondria, which burn oxygen to produce energy. Superoxide is a free radical produced through this process.

This molecule is much like normal oxygen, or dioxide, except that it possesses an extra electron.

As it comes in contact with healthy cells, it donates this electron to them, causing an imbalance. This process leads to disease.

There are a number of antioxidants in plants that can counteract superoxide, including Vitamin K, E, C, carotenoids, flavonoids and superoxide dismutase (or SOD).

Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is an enzyme found in BarleyLife®. SOD enzymes contain the minerals copper, manganese, iron or nickel.

The minerals within SOD can accept superoxide’s extra electron and convert it back to a balanced dioxide molecule. Now it no longer causes cell damage and disease.

SOD is about 3,500 times more efficient at counteracting superoxide than vitamin C.

How To Save Money On Soft Drinks

If you go out to eat five times per week and get a regular, full calorie fountain soft drink each time, you are consuming about 200 calories in each cup, or 1000 calories per week. (This assumes no refills).

If you do this for fifty weeks of the year, that would add up to about 50,000 calories.

One pound of fat stores about 3500 calories, so this is a little over fourteen pounds of fat added per year, just from soda.

Not to mention that if each soda costs an average of about $1.50, then this costs you $375 per year. A family of four would spend $1,500.

So switching to water could save fourteen pounds per year and several hundred dollars.

Something to think about...

Eliminate Waste and Toxins With Enzymes

Every day, our bodies create and are exposed to toxic chemicals through metabolism, food, air and water. These compounds include metabolic waste, bacteria, pollutants, pesticides and sometimes drugs and alcohol.

Your liver is your largest internal organ. It's the most important organ involved in detoxification. Overexposure to toxins can exceed your body's capacity to remove them.

Ultimately, toxin levels increase in the body, producing a variety of symptoms like headaches, muscle and joint pain, fatigue and allergies. Over a period of time, this can contribute to inflammatory and neurological disease.

Liver detoxification involves enzymatic systems, which are divided into two general phases: Phase 1 and Phase 2 enzymes. These enzymes can be referred to as proteins with a job. Sometimes, though, they need nutrients or cofactors to kick start their performance.

Phase 1 enzymes need folic acid, beta carotene, B vitamins and vitamin C in order to function properly. These nutrients ar…

Are You Smarter Than A Third Grader?

A mother recently wrote to Tom Naughton to tell about her third-grade son, who composed this essay in school:
"Do you think low-fat is healthy? Well we’re going to see. This is my true opinion of health. O.k. you think low-fat is healthy right? Sorry, try again. Fat is actually good for you. Your brain uses it as fuel. Fine, you think I’m goofy and need to see a doctor. I don’t agree! The sad thing is people think wheat, sugar, gluten, grains, starches, and carbohydrates are healthy. They even think red meat is unhealthy! Who came up with that lie and the #1 lying food pyramid? I only have a tiny clue who. A little junk food is o.k. but groups like CSPI have diets that are super bad. Again, that is my opinion. If you want to learn more then log on the computer and type in Fat Head, Mark’s Daily Apple, Dr. Sears, or Wheat Belly. Remember this is truly my opinion, but also remember opinions are different. Do your opinion.” The mother also said she supposes the teacher thinks their f…

Panic In The Heartland?

In a recent show, Bill O’Reilly commented that he had eliminated wheat from his diet.

He said his cholesterol has dropped, his allergies have left, his waste size is down two inches and the fogginess has disappeared. Just from giving up wheat.

Now there's some backlash from some of the wheat farmers in Kansas, as well as others. Their livelihood may be harmed. And they are getting nervous.

As Dr. William Davis, M.D. has said, "Elimination of wheat is the single most powerful strategy for health available to Americans, more powerful than any supplement, drug, or procedure to restore health, eliminate abnormal triggering of appetite and other abnormal mind and emotional effects, lose weight, and obtain relief from a long list of abnormal health conditions."

And it's great that people like Bill O’Reilly have noticed too.

BarleyLife® is Grown in Better Than Organic Conditions

BarleyLife® is the green barley powder produced by The AIM Companies™. It is actually grown under better conditions than most organic products.

The AIM Companies™ is strongly committed to providing the best possible product. They use no chemical herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides.

In addition, they have adopted quality control markers, standard operating procedures and test methods to ensure that BarleyLife® is grown, harvested, processed and packaged under better-than-organic conditions.

In countless numbers of tests, done before, during and after production for more than one hundred different residues, no residues of any kind have been detected.

Plants grown in organically grown fields often cannot make this claim. In fact, after a field receives organic certification, it is no longer required to be planted according to the guidelines that helped it achieve its organic status.

Therefore, once organic status is achieved, there are no planting or quality control requirements that g…

Sunscreen and Vitamin D

When it comes to sunscreen, SPF 15 or greater blocks Vitamin D production by 99 percent.

A deficiency of Vitamin D is linked to osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer and more.

Fifty percent of the world's population is vitamin D deficient. And according to a study from the University of Colorado, seventy-five percent of Americans are Vitamin D deficient.

Are you getting enough vitamin D every day?

P.S. If you're not able to spend twenty to thirty minutes a day in the sun, here are ten ways to get some Vitamin D without sunlight.

Do Diet Soft Drinks Cause Weight Gain?

Researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center monitored 475 adults for 10 years.

They found those who drank diet soda had a 70 percent increase in waist circumference over the 10-year study, compared to those who didn't drink any soda.

Those who drank more than two diet sodas per day saw a 500 percent waist expansion.

In a separate study, conducted on mice, the same researchers suggested it was aspartame, which raised blood glucose levels, that caused the weight gain.

When your liver encounters too much glucose, the excess is converted to body fat.

Quality Assured from The AIM Companies™

Quality Testing verses Organic
Q: Why are none of the products from The AIM Companies™ certified USDA Organic?

We believe that AIM product quality testing is more thorough than organic procedures.

Organic is a standard that is hard to achieve, for any farmer or packager, as it stands for a high standard of quality through procedures to prevent contamination.

The difference between an organic product and a product from The AIM Companies™ is that once a field has been organically certified, products produced from it are not tested to the standard that we test our products at The AIM Companies™.

Instead of pursuing organic certification, we ensure that our products are residue-free through testing. Here is what that looks like from a Quality Assurance (QA) and testing perspective.

Our products are grown under organic standards, and some ingredients are certified organic. However, we do not certify that our packaging facilities are organic.

Instead, we test our products for the absence of pestic…

Severe Case of Poison Ivy Quickly Clears Up

"Our teenage son Joseph developed a severe case of poison oak on the back of his leg. He did not tell us about it until his leg swelled so much that he had difficulty putting on his jeans and sitting at his desk at school. The back of his leg looked horrible, especially from his buttocks to his knee, and it was very swollen and inflamed. It was oozing and weeping puss and looked like raw meat. It just made you want to cry to look at it.

We took him to the local clinic, and the doctor confirmed it was poison oak. He said it would take at least twelve to fourteen days to get better and recommended using calamine lotion to treat it. The doctor also offered a steroid shot that might help the leg heal a few days sooner, but that it would take at least two weeks, maybe more, to heal. We declined the steroid approach.

The doctor's visit happened on a Thursday afternoon, and when we got home, my wife broke down and cried. Then, after discussing what to do, we sat down and talked to …

The Modern Health Dilemma

Let's look at what happened in the twentieth century.

In the first half of last century, the major causes of death were diseases like influenza, tuberculosis, diphtheria, diarrhea, whooping cough and typhoid fever. All contagious, microbial infections.

In the second half of the century, through advancements in medical and scientific knowledge, very few people in developed countries died of these kinds of illnesses.

Instead, the major killers were cardiovascular diseases (heart attacks, strokes), cancer, diabetes and other lifestyle-related conditions.

All of them avoidable or controllable and almost all of them related to improper diet and lack of exercise.

In other words, self-inflicted.

The Skinny on Obesity: Drugs, Cigarettes, Alcohol and Sugar

Here’s the seventh and final of the “Skinny on Obesity” series.

One thing in regards to this video. When it comes to sugar, I don't believe we should regulate it. Even though it may contribute to things like diabetes and obesity, I believe the key to solving those problems is education.

Educate consumers, have proper labeling on products (like they do on cigarettes) and let the marketplace decide on the success or failure of a particular product or ingredient.

And we can start by having the government tell consumers the truth about wheat, corn and grains...
