Batman and BarleyLife®

Yesterday afternoon, my wife and I went to see the latest Batman movie - The Dark Knight Rises.

In one scene, Alfred, Bruce Wayne's loyal butler, brings a silver tray into his living quarters. On the tray is a glass of green juice. I couldn’t help but smile and think to myself, "BarleyLife - Batman's Secret Weapon."

Considering the energy it takes to fight crime, where would Batman be without BarleyLife®?

Can Sudden Cardiac Death Be Prevented?

Almost as many Americans die of sudden cardiac death each year, as died in combat during all of World War II.

Risk factors include a previous heart attack, diabetes, smoking and obesity.

But one risk factor you may not know about is a deficiency of magnesium.

One study shows seventy-five percent of normal people are deficient in magnesium - fifty percent severely.

Gallop Poll shows eighty-six percent of Americans were not at all aware of the daily requirement of magnesium.

One way to significantly lower your magnesium levels is by drinking soft and diet drinks.

The good news? You can make sure you're getting enough magnesium every day through diet and supplementation.

Magnesium can be widely found in avocados, almonds, pumpkin seeds, spinach, barley grass, alfalfa leaf and sesame seeds.

Dark, green vegetables are also an excellent source of magnesium, because the center of the chlorophyll molecule (which gives green vegetables their color) contains magnesium.

So reduce your ris…

How The Government Makes You Fat: Gary Taubes on Obesity, Carbs and Bad Science

"The government can come along and, with all the best intentions, cause enormous problems" says Gary Taubes, author of "Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It".

In this video, Taubes talks about his work in the world of nutrition, as well as his conclusion that carbohydrates - not dietary fat, overeating, or lack of physcial activity - are the main cause of obesity.

Obesity in America

In 1934, a young German pediatrician named Hilde Bruch moved to America and settled in New York City. She was "startled," as she later wrote, by the number of fat children she saw - "really fat ones, not only in clinics, but on the streets and subways, and in schools."

Indeed, fat children in New York were so conspicuous that other European immigrants would ask Bruch about it, assuming that she would have an answer. What is the matter with American children? they would ask. Why are they so bloated and blown up? Many would say they’d never seen so many children in such a state.

Gary Taubes: Question and Answer Session

What would you ask investigative journalist Gary Taubes if you had the chance?

The author of "Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It" and "Good Calories, Bad Calories" addresses such things as what type of studies he would do with unlimited funds.

And if Taubes could create that study, how would he convince the average person the findings are actually true?

And what about the links between diet and cancer?

What Is The Best Way To Mix BarleyLife®?

Question: What is the best way to mix BarleyLife® to minimize clumps?

The best way to mix BarleyLife® is to first add the powder to the AIM blender bottle.

Then add water or juice and shake vigorously. This will result in a foamy head that is about 1½ inches (4 cm) tall or about twice as high as it used to be.

If you look closely at this foam you will notice little or no green specs in it. This coupled with virtually no green sludge at the bottom of your empty glass ensures that our powder is more soluble than ever.

An ineffective way to mix BarleyLife® is water first, then powder, then stirring it with a spoon. It is important to use a blender bottle, shaker cup, or mini hand blender, to get the best mixing and tasting BarleyLife®.

As for me, I take BarleyLife® with a spoon and then down it with a bottle of water. But I have been taking it now for over twelve years, so I have gotten used to the taste, which can be quite strong for new users of BarleyLife®.

BarleyLife® is also availab…

Can Dairy Slow Weight Loss?

"Dairy promotes inflammation, which is linked to fluid retention and increased belly-fat storage. Studies also show a three hundred percent increase in insulin - a fat storage hormone - after eating dairy." -  Mark Hyman, M.D., author of The Blood Sugar Solution

Non-Dairy Coconut Whipped Topping

Coconut Whipped Topping
One can of full-fat coconut milk 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1/4 tsp Stevia (or use sweetener of your choice)

1. Place the can in the refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight, to separate the cream from the water.

2. Place your mixing bowl and beaters in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes prior to starting -- this will help speed up the whipping process.

3. Open the can of coconut milk and carefully scoop out the cream into your mixing bowl (the top 3/4 of the can will be cream and the bottom 1/4 of the can will be water). Make sure not to include any water, as any amount will harm your results.

4. Add vanilla and Stevia and whip until it reaches the right consistency.

Eat with any berries of your choice for a delicious, no-guilt dessert that is low in carbs and very healthy. Makes 1-1/2 cups of whipped topping (9.6 carbs total).

A friend of mine on Facebook has been following my blog posts about losing weight by going low carb and removing wheat from your diet

The other day, she posted on my wall, "30lbs!"

Even better, she said she did it without exercising. She also mentioned she had not been strict the entire time or she likely would have lost ten more pounds.

Nutrition For Healthy Bones

Have you ever watched a house or building being built? The frame is constructed on a solid foundation.

Your body is similar: the foundation of good health is built around your skeletal frame, the strength of which supports a healthy lifetime.

Strong, healthy bones are the infrastructure of your body, which can be maintained with exercise, rest, a healthy diet and supplementation from The AIM Companies™.

Your bone structure involves the work of two types of cells: osteoblast and osteoclasts - the builders and the excavators that gather and extract calcium, which is the primary building material of your bones. More often than not, bone structure suffers from a calcium deficiency. To make sure that your body is receiving enough of this vital mineral, you have to get enough dietary calcium. Supplementing with CalciAIM™ can ensure this.

The average adult needs 1,000 to 1,200 mg a day. One serving of CalciAIM™ provides around 400 mg of easily absorbed calcium. Simply mix one rounded sc…

LeafGreens™ Can Play a Role in Vision Health

Lutein is a relatively new term in the natural supplement industry. New maybe, since it has only gained notoriety since the mid-1990s, but its benefit is increasingly important to an aging population.

Lutein is an antioxidant and is valuable for blue light absorption. What does that mean? Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness for persons age fifty and older. The macula is a small area of the retina responsible for central vision and clear, sharp eyesight. Blue light, found in both indoor lighting and in sunlight, is thought to play a role in oxidative stress and free radical damage to the eye.

An estimated 220,000 people in the United States are diagnosed each year with some form of macular degeneration; ten percent of the cases are referred to as wet degeneration, ninety percent dry degeneration.

Wet or dry, it is not good news for a Baby Boomer population. Cases of it are uncommon in those age 40 or less. Worldwide, an estimated 30 million people currently have macu…

Alternative Cancer Treatment - Oasis of Hope Hospital

In one case, a stay-at-home mother found out her four year-old son had leukemia:

"Meanwhile, Linda McCallum consulted with Dr. Francisco Contreras of the Oasis of Hope Hospital, who recommended that along with chemotherapy, Janet should give Mark super nutrition; give him barley grass powder.

For final confirmation, her son's oncologist told her she could give Mark juice powder of young barley plants from The AIM Companies™. For two and a half years, Mark received daily doses of chemo, along with wearing green moustaches, from drinking nutrient-rich barley grass every day.

Twenty years later, Mark remains cancer-free and full of life."

One Way To Prevent Sunburn

"I've always thought of myself as the type who burns easily in the sun - that was certainly my experience in years past — but that doesn’t seem to be true anymore. We've spent hours in the sun, and despite not using any sunscreen I’ve just turned slightly brown on the arms and neck. Perhaps putting good quality fats back into my diet has made a difference." - Tom Naughton, writer and creator of the documentary, 'Fat Head'

The Power of Enzymes

Enzymes are a type of protein made up of amino acids. They're a catalyst that either cause a chemical reaction or speed it up. Enzymes:
Are required for every single chemical reaction in your body. Are responsible for destroying viruses and bacteria. They can also break down the walls of cancer cells, allowing your immune system to get at them and kill them. Are most likely absent from your diet, almost totally. The standard American diet (SAD) contains almost none. Were first proposed in 1906 by Scottish embryologist John Beard as a major defense against cancer.May be the missing piece of the puzzle if you take antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and you are still not well.  Scientists have identified more than 3,000 enzymes in the human body. They may very well be the missing ingredient for your good health.

Digestive enzymes break your food down, bit by bit, piece by piece… reducing it to its smallest and most basic elements. Your body then uses these basic elements to build b…

It Starts With Food - 30 Second Explanation of What to Eat

"I eat real food - fresh, natural food like meat, vegetables and fruit. I choose foods that are nutrient-dense, with lots of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals, over foods that have more calories but less nutrition. And food quality is important - I’m careful about where my meat, seafood and eggs come from, and buy organic local produce as often as possible.

This is not a "diet" - I eat as much as I need to maintain strength, energy, activity levels and a healthy body weight. I aim for well-balanced nutrition, so I eat both animals and a significant amount of plants. I’m not lacking carbohydrates - I just get them from vegetables and fruits instead of bread, cereal or pasta. And my meals are probably higher in fat than you’d imagine, but fat is a healthy source of energy when it comes from high-quality foods like avocado, coconut and grass-fed beef.

Eating like this is ideal for maintaining a healthy metabolism and reducing inflammation within the body. It’s good …

How Did Paula Deen Lose Thirty Pounds?

Hey ya'll. Did you know Paula Deen, the Food Network television star has lost thirty pounds?

How did she do it?

“The architecture of my plate has changed. I double up on greens - whether it's salad or vegetables - and my carbs are just a spoonful,” the queen of southern cooking said.

So she lost weight by significantly cutting back on processed carbs and eating real food. Imagine that.

She went on to say, "In the past, when I tried to go on a very strict, 1,000-calories-a-day diet, that would drive me insane."

Why? Because the key to long-term weight loss is not the 'calories in - calories out' formula, but rather, to eat the way your body was designed to be fed.

Deen, 65, plans to lose another fifteen pounds. "I have no desire to be skinny," she said. "I do have a desire to be healthy for my age."

For the love of butter, let's hope so.
