Beat The Odds Against Obesity and Disease

"In the late 1970s, when the U.S. government declared that we needed to get fat out of our diets, the food industry responded by pumping in more sugar to make food more palatable (and more salable), and by removing the fiber to make food last longer on the shelf.

The result has been a perfect storm for our health, disastrously altering our biochemistry to make us think we're starving, drive our eating habits out of control, and turn us into couch potatoes.

If we cannot control how we eat, it's because of the catastrophic excess of sugar in our diet - the resulting hormonal imbalances that have rewired our brains." - Robert H. Lustig, M.D.

Is Obesity A Disease?

Why did the American Medical Association decide to classify obesity as a disease?

"Well, it’s hard to know how the internal discussions at the AMA went until we get a look at the transcripts. But let’s take a look at the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). I believe it tells the whole story.

The OAC Board of Directors is filled with bariatric surgeons, such as Drs. Titus Duncan and Lloyd Stegemann, people who make a living from procedures and surgeries like gastric bypass and lap-band. The largest contributors to the OAC? Eisai Pharmaceuticals, maker of BELVIQ, the new drug for weight loss; Ethicon EndoSurgery, makers of laparoscopic operating room supplies; Vivus, Inc., another obesity drug maker; the American Society for Bariatric Surgeons; and Orexigen, developer of the combination drug naltrexone-buproprion for weight loss, now in FDA application stage. (Recall that naltrexone is the opiate blocking drug taken by heroin addicts but now being proposed to be gain approval for weight …

How To Protect Yourself From Disease

Recent statistics show seven out of ten people will die from a heart attack (34%), cancer (33%) or stroke (7%).

Will you be one of them?

According to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society, one way to beat the odds is to get nine to eleven servings of fruits and vegetables every day.

Yet surveys show most children and adults fail to do this on a regular basis.

One reason? People simply do not have time.

That's why there's BarleyLife® Xtra. It's a quick and easy way to get your fruits and veggies.

There are eighteen fruits and vegetables in BarleyLife® Xtra. It's combined with young barley grass, one of the most nutritious plants on earth.

This nutritious green powder is full of vitamins, minerals and enzymes. It's high in antioxidants (cancer fighters), chlorophyll (healer of sick cells) and phytochemicals (plant medicines).

And because it's made from real food, there are no negative side effects and your body knows exactly what to do wi…

What If We’re Wrong About Diabetes? by Peter Attia

As a young surgeon, Dr. Peter Attia felt contempt for a patient with diabetes.

He believed she was responsible for being overweight as well as for her necessary foot amputation.

However, years later, Attia received an unpleasant medical surprise that led him to wonder: is our understanding of diabetes correct? Could the precursors to diabetes cause obesity and not the other way around?

This video is a look at how assumptions may be leading us to wage the wrong medical war.

"If obesity is nothing more than a proxy for metabolic illness, what good does it do us to punish those with the proxy?" - Dr. Peter Attia at TEDMED 2013

Fructose Can Cause Liver Damage Without Weight Gain

Almost every processed food contains high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows this sweetener can directly cause liver damage, without causing weight gain.

"What surprised us the most was how quickly the liver was affected and how extensive the damage was, especially without weight gain as a factor," Kylie Kavanagh, D.V.M., said. "Is a calorie a calorie? Are they all created equal? Based on this study, we would say not."

All calories are not the same and high fructose corn syrup is just plain bad news. Do everything you can to avoid it.

The Best Way To Absorb Nutrients

When it comes to absorbing nutrients from supplements, you can't beat powders. The following are several reasons why powders are the most effective way to achieve good health.

Absorption of Nutrients
Powders have a direct action on gastrointestinal tissues and nutrients are easily absorbed. And since they do not have to be broken down like tablets or caplets, the nutrients are quickly absorbed by your body and put to good use. To prepare a glass of concentrated nutrition, all you have to do is to mix the powder with cold water or your favorite beverage (depending on the powder) and drink.

Super-Sized Nutrition
Sometimes adults need more than a single serving. Powders provide flexibility when it comes to super sizing your nutritional intake. You can adjust the serving size according to your health requirements. For example, you can increase the serving size of BarleyLife® to help you get over health challenges. Or a serving of ProPeas® can be super-sized for the times you need more …

Zero Complications During Her Pregnancy

When the Borkholders chose The AIM Companies™, Miriam was pregnant with their fifth child. The previous three pregnancies had been difficult and this one would prove to be no different. Less than two months into pregnancy, complications arose. Bleeding, which continued for two months concerned the Borkholders for the health of the pregnancy.

Approximately six weeks before her due date more complications arose, forcing them to go to the hospital. Three days later, Miriam gave birth without complication to baby Sarah. Thirty-six hours later, Sarah's lung collapsed and she was transferred to a children's hospital for care.

These events challenged the Borkholders, but with their belief in whole-food nutrition and with guidance from AIM Member Marlene Rawls, they remained determined.

"We decided to continue on the AIM products," David said. "Marlene stressed the fact that even though this pregnancy went the way it did, Miriam's body was not built up. We needed to re…

Dads Talk About BarleyLife®

For nutritional support, dads of all ages have found The AIM Companies™ delivers the nutrients they need to maintain an active lifestyle. AIM dads share how nutrition from supplements such as BarleyLife® and the Garden Trio® have helped them.

"AIM just seems like it's part of my life now, but back when I first began, I remember people thought it was weird. When they heard about BarleyLife, they would ask, 'What are you doing to your body?' Now, they see the difference. They notice I have lots of energy. They ask if I dye my hair. People think I'm ten years younger than I am. Whenever I encounter someone who is skeptical of AIM, I tell them to try the products and be patient. I feel great. You can, too. With AIM, I know I'm helping people. I don't know what our time's worth here on earth, but if I spend my time helping people, I'm doing the right thing." - James Dobney, Adrian, Oregon

"BarleyLife is still working in my body just the same a…

Are Nutritional Supplements A Good Idea?

A study by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows the loss of vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables since 1975:
Apples: Vitamin A is down 41% Sweet peppers: Vitamin C is down 31% Watercress: Iron is down 88% Broccoli: Calcium and vitamin A are down 50% Cauliflower: Vitamin C is down 45%; vitamin B1 is down 48%; and vitamin B2 is down 47% Collards greens: Magnesium is down 85% When you eat an apple, it has one-fifth of the nutrition of an apple fifty years ago. You need to eat five times the amount of food your grandparents ate to receive the same nutritional value. So an apple a day won't keep the doctor away.

Do you believe nutritional supplements might be a good idea?

Adults Who Eat Eggs For Breakfast Lose More Weight

Researchers at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, on the campus of Louisiana State University, say eating eggs for breakfast helps overweight adults lose more weight and feel more energetic.

This supports a previous study which showed that people who ate eggs for breakfast felt more satisfied and ate fewer calories at the following meal.

Could it be the fat and cholesterol increases ketone production, which has been shown to discourage hunger and provide more energy?

Study: One Soft Drink A Day Increases Kidney Stone Risk

There are many reasons to stop drinking soft drinks and sugary drinks.  Here's one more reason:

Kidney stones.

Currently, 1 in 10 people can expect to get these things. If you have not yet had one, then stop the soft drink habit now.

A study in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, of almost 200,000 people, found that just one sugary drink per day will increase your risk for kidney stones by twenty-five percent.

Other drinks such as coffee, tea or orange juice helped reduce the risk.

"Our study found that the relation between fluid intake and kidney stones may be dependent on the type of beverage consumed," said senior author Dr. Gary Curhan. "We found that higher consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks was associated with a higher incidence of kidney stones."

So do your body a favor and give up the sodas and sugary drinks. Your kidneys will be glad you did.

The Benefits of Mag-nificence™ Magnesium

Magnesium is an overlooked mineral that can boost your health in a number of ways. New evidence shows daily doses of magnesium can help everything from boosting your mood to lowering your risk for a heart attack.

Yet, eighty percent of Americans do not get enough magnesium.

According to The Wellness Times:

"The National Institutes of Health report that magnesium is needed for more than 300 different biochemical reactions in your body, including producing and transporting energy, synthesizing protein, maintaining normal muscle and nerve function, and supporting a healthy immune system. What's more, because magnesium makes up fifty percent of your bones, it's a key mineral for bone health."

Magnesium is also known to help those with type 2 diabetes and can even aid in weight loss, by helping your body digest and use fats, proteins and carbohydrates, as well as prevent the expression of obesity genes.

The Opposite Of Conventional Wisdom For Weight Loss

"Today marks the day that I've maintained a 60+ lb. weight loss for 2 years. How have I done it? By doing the exact opposite of what The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association, the U.S. Government, my insurance company, Jillian Michaels, Dr. Oz, and my employer tell me to do. Weird, huh?" - Dave Vacilek, Columbus, Ohio
