Regarding Protein Powders

Protein isolates are heavily processed. Their impact on health is a subject of some debate in holistic circles.

While I do not believe they are downright terrible, I do believe there are less heavily processed and more nourishing options out there. One of them is pea protein.

This is a favorite among raw athletes. With choices like this, why would anyone seek out highly processed and (often) unnaturally sweetened powders?

Here is a delicious Verry Berry Smoothie (with a nice hint of chocolate) for you:
1 cup mixed berries 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1 scoop ProPeas®Sweetened with Stevia 1 teaspoon Cocoa Leaf Greens™1 teaspoon Just Carrots®1 teaspoon RediBeets®5 ice cubes Blend well and enjoy!

Symptoms of Low Magnesium Levels

Study: Whole Milk Means Slimmer Kids

According to a study published in JAMA Pediatrics, kids given whole milk are less likely to gain weight.

"There's never been such a strong evidence base for these recommendations," says Dr. David S. Ludwig, an endocrinologist at Boston Children's Hospital.

"We're not arguing that milk should be eliminated from the diet, but that a broader range of recommendations might be more appropriate."

It seems when children drink skim, they're less satisfied and therefore more likely to eat snacks, particularly the carbs that cause blood-sugar levels to spike, which leads to more hunger, more snacking and more weight gain.

Said Dr. Ludwig, "We just don't see any benefit for focusing on reducing fat."

And neither should you.

Carb-Loaded - A Culture Dying To Eat

Take a sneak peek at the upcoming documentary, "Carb-Loaded - A Culture Dying To Eat", one of the biggest health disasters in modern history.

Many experts on health and diet were interviewed, including Gary Taubes, professor Tim Noakes, Dr. David Katz and others.

Lathe Poland, one of the producers, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2010. He always thought of himself as a healthy eater. He rarely ate sweets, never drank soda and had no family history of diabetes.

So why would a seemingly healthy thirty-something like Lathe get this disease?

The misconception he had, like many people, was that diabetes is either hereditary and it’s not your fault, or you eat junk food like it’s going out of style and you end up diabetic.

Is our lifestyle, culture or food system causing the sky-rocketing increase in diabetes and obesity? More importantly, can it be reversed?

These are the questions that are answered in the film.

Exercising On An Empty Stomach

"A half-hour walk or the equivalent exercise, before breakfast, also has been recommended. The reason for this is that, while sixty percent of the energy needs of the body are supplied by fat after the usual overnight fast, the proportion can be increased by exercise in the post-absorptive state." - Dr. A.W. Pennington, M.D.

Possible Blood Clot Avoided

"Sometime ago, not sure when exactly, but at least over a week ago, I noticed a humungous swollen, bruise on my left calf muscle.

It was very colourful, being black, blue and dark purple, not a pretty sight. It was 4" long and 2" wide.

For the life of me, I couldn’t think of where I got it from. It was not painful and didn’t ache at all, thank goodness. I wondered how to get rid of it and thought of Mag-nificence right away.

I slathered the magnesium gel and spray at least twice a day on it.

Just yesterday I noticed it has all turned a soft pink, and the swelling has definitely gone down. Thank goodness, as I was worried about it being a huge blood clot and all that could cause.

Thank you AIM for these wonderful healing products. (From what I've read and heard from AIM experts on this subject, magnesium relaxes the muscles, restores the body to balance and brings the body to ease. So somehow I guess I needed to be renewed!)" - Jan Baxter, Waterloo, Ontario

The Hidden Sugar In Your Diet

The average American now consumes more than one hundred pounds of sugar a year. Yet most of us have no idea we are eating that much sugar.

Most of the sugars in our diets do not come from the table sugar, but rather, from sweeteners added to packaged foods.

Sweeteners are now tucked into a vast variety of foods, including salad dressings, bread, mustard and crackers. Some of the healthy snacks fit women eat regularly, like fruit flavored yogurt, are loaded with sugar.

Ironically, the sugar in foods only intensifies our craving for the sweet stuff. The more sugar people get, the more they need in order to feel satisfied.

Sugar is rarely listed as an ingredient. Instead it will show up as dextrose, sucrose, maltose, honey, molasses, maple syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, evaporated cane juice, fruit juice concentrate and agave nectar.

GlucoChrom™ can help curb your sugar cravings and stabilize blood sugar levels.

Energy Drinks Are Big Business

Energy drinks are big business, but can they safely deliver the jump start you crave?

Contrary to what you might think, frat boys aren't the only ones guzzling these drinks. People over forty years of age are now the most likely to visit the emergency room, due to consuming energy drinks.

They visit the emergency room because they're experiencing heart palpitations, body tremors and seizures, from drinking too many energy beverages.

Nurse Rejects "Healthy Whole Grains" Loses 41 Pounds and Her Adult Acne

"In October of 2012, my mom's doctor gave her a copy of Wheat Belly to read, which she then gave to me. As an nurse, it was difficult to believe "healthy whole grains" could be a problem, but there I was, one year postpartum and 55 pounds overweight, eating fruits and grains and everything I had learned I should be eating.

I tried your diet plan of grain-free for two weeks and hoped it might give me results that obsessing over points and always being hungry wasn't.

Well, after feeling like crap for a week, I stayed motivated because I lost 8 pounds. The next week, 5 pounds and then I started to feel awesome. My family's lifestyle is forever changed. No more dieting for me!!!

I have lost 41 pounds eating whatever I want the "healthified" way! I threw away the acne face wash I had been using for 10 years to combat my adult acne! My husband is back in the clothes he wore when we got married 7 years ago. My kids are grain free and always ask if there is w…

Even Children will Like Cocoa LeafGreens™

"With my first taste of Cocoa LeafGreens, my taste buds said 'WOW' and I thought to myself, 'This is a winner because even children will like this.' When I believe in something, I know I can sell it, so right away I ordered eight canisters.

Better Reading and Memory For Kids

According to a new study from Oxford University, Omega 3 is linked to cognition and behavior in schoolchildren with below average reading ability.

This large study evaluated healthy, but underperforming children, finding blood serum levels to be low in LC 0-3 or Omega 3.

Omega 3 and DHA are critical for normal brain and nervous system development. However, the typical western diet tends to be much higher in omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids (Linus Pauling Institute).

Foods that are high in omega-3 include flaxseed, chia seeds, eggs and grass-fed beef.

AIMega® is an organic seed oil blend that provides a balanced source of Omega 3, 6 and 9.

Does Disease Begin and End With Excess Insulin?

"The journey through obesity and chronic metabolic disease begins and ends with the hormone insulin. There is no fat accumulation without insulin.

Insulin shunts sugar to fat. It makes your fat cells grow. The more insulin, the more fat, period.

While there are many causes of obesity, excess insulin (known as hyperinsulinemia) is the 'final common pathway' for the overwhelming majority of them." - Dr. Robert H. Lustig, M.D.

Dr. Robert Su Talks About Carbohydrates

"For a long time, we had falsely believed that carbohydrate was our best energy source, because it neither was greasy nor caused us fat, and that we could not live without it.

Now, we have known that carbohydrate can harm our health and develop diseases such as morbid obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and many more." - Dr. Robert Su, M.D.

Avoid The Wheat and Lose The Weight

Modern wheat triggers a high insulin response, due to its high-glycemic index. In other words, wheat quickly turns into sugar, which can upset blood sugar levels and more, causing multiple health problems.

"My husband has had problems with high triglycerides, cholesterol and blood pressure for years. I read "Wheat Belly", we have not eaten wheat in two months, and his blood work is now PERFECT! I did not realize how quickly change for the good can happen after stopping wheat in the diet. In addition, he has lost fifteen pounds, as well!" - Ruth Tolbert

Broccoli versus Breast Cancer Stem Cells

According to several studies, the sulforaphane in broccoli may target and kill cancer cells, while leaving healthy cells unaffected.

The research showed the ability of sulforaphane to selectively target cancerous prostate and breast cells, while avoiding healthy cells. This cancer-fighting ability comes from the metabolic process of plant tissue.

The unique aspect of sulforaphane is that it fights free radicals and has been proven to be safe.

Sulforaphane is found in broccoli. You can get 400 mcg of sulforaphane in LeafGreens™ as well as Cocoa LeafGreens™.

Feeding Riders of The Tour de France

In this article, here are some quotes from a Hannah Grant, a chef working for a cycling team competing in the Tour de France:

"We don't want to go too hard on the carbs, so they don't gain weight."

"We have a philosophy of using lots of vegetables, proteins, and cold-pressed fats...we try to encourage the riders to try other things than just pasta and bread."

"It's all to minimize all the little things that can stop you from performing 100 percent, that promote injuries, stomach problems, all those things."

Since elite athletes in the grueling Tour de France eat this way, why wouldn't the rest of us eat this way too?

Does High Fat and Meat Lower Prostate Cancer Risk?

A study in the International Journal of Cancer showed the consumption of high saturated fat and meat can lower the risk of prostate cancer.

This study investigated the relationship between diet and prostate cancer. It included 25,708 men, aged 16-56 years, who were followed for up to fifteen years.

The researchers found that men who consumed the most saturated fat had a 30% lower risk of prostate cancer, compared to men who consumed the least saturated fat.

It also found men who consumed the most meat had a 60% reduced risk of prostate cancer, compared to men who consumed the least meat.

The researchers also discovered that men who drank whole milk had a 120% reduced risk of prostate cancer, compared to men who drank skimmed milk.

Finally, men who consumed the most polyunsaturated fat had a 40% increased risk of prostate cancer, compared to men who consumed the least polyunsaturated fat.

The study suggests that a diet high in saturated fat and meat consumption lowers the risk of pro…

Do You Love Dark Chocolate?

"I LOVE LeafGreens, and I also LOVE dark chocolate. So I was curious to try them together in AIM's new product CoCoa LeafGreens.

Since LeafGreens tastes 'very green', I like to mix it with CalciAIM in the morning.

But, chocolate doesn't appeal to me first thing in the morning. So, thanks to CoCoa LeafGreens, I now have a delicious meal replacement or afternoon pick-me-up.

I especially enjoy mixing CoCoa LeafGreens with ProPeas and/or Peak Endurance after an intense spinning workout. Satisfying AND delicious!" - Cindy Haubert, Longmont, Colorado

The Importance of Green Foods

One reason greens are important is because they are rich in magnesium.

Magnesium is necessary for hundreds of functions in the body, including weight loss, strong bones and a healthy heart.

The chlorophyll molecule in green foods is shaped just like the hemoglobin in our red blood cells. The only difference is an iron molecule sits in the middle of the hemoglobin ring and magnesium sits in the center of a chlorophyll ring.

This is why all green foods are particularly healing to those on the Standard American Diet (SAD). The SAD diet is deficient in minerals such as magnesium found in green foods.

Have you had two to three servings of leafy green vegetables today?

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Likely Not Associated With Prostate Cancer

A study has been widely reported in the media, stating that higher levels of omega-3 fatty acid may increase the risk of prostate cancer.

Lipid and omega-3 fat expert, Dr. William Harris, posted this concise critique of the study, exposing some fundamental problems:

"First, the reported EPA+DHA level in the plasma phospholipids in this study was 3.62% in the no-cancer control group, 3.66% in the total cancer group, 3.67% in the low grade cancer group, and 3.74% in the high-grade group. These differences between cases and controls are very small and would have no meaning clinically as they are within the normal variation. Based on experiments in our lab, the lowest quartile would correspond to an HS-Omega-3 Index of 4.77%). These values are obviously low, and virtually none of the subjects was in “danger” of having an HS-Omega-3 Index of >8%. So to conclude that regular consumption of 2 oily fish meals a week or taking fish oil supplements (both of which would result in…

More Health Benefits of Chlorophyll

In a previous blog post, I talked about the many health benefits of chlorophyll.

Many studies have been done with respect to chlorophyll (healer of sick cells). Here is just a little more of what is believed about this green molecule:
"People suffering from fatigue, hypoglycemia or degenerative diseases should find time or find someone to make the raw green drink as nothing, truly substitutes for the fresh, raw chlorophyll to ease pain and aid in cell building." - Willa Vae Bowles, a leading nutritionist"Drinking lots of chlorophyll-rich juice is somewhat like getting a natural blood transfusion. It flushes the lymph system, nourishes and oxygenates the vascular system, cleanses the intestines, and is healing and soothing to all mucous membranes." - Steve Meyerowitz"High chlorophyll foods are excellent oxygen transporters, so including super foods like wheat grass and barley grass juice can help us think more clearly. Other high chlorophyll foods include the l…

High Fructose Corn Syrup Can Cause Cravings

If you have cravings, it could be attributed to high fructose corn syrup.

When scaling back on refined sugars, make sure to pay attention to labels and avoid high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) if possible.

Research showed that animals given foods sweetened with high fructose corn syrup ate more often and larger quantities.

High fructose corn syrup can be found in many types of foods, particularly processed foods, so make sure to read those labels.

The Result of Iron Deficiency In Children

A study performed at University of Michigan and later published in the Journal of Pediatrics, suggested that infants with untreated iron deficiency resulted in children who had difficulty performing in school, had emotional difficulties and performed lower overall.

Expecting mothers can get a head start by providing their babies with iron, as well as other essential vitamins and minerals, with Cocoa Greens™.

This nutritious chocolate powder has been especially well received by moms and dads. As parents, you can be excited about a new way to get your children their iron and greens. What could be better?

Study: Americans Less Healthy Than They Think

Just because you might look good on the outside, does not necessarily mean you're healthy on the inside.

A new study shows many are in denial in regards to their health - and are less healthy than they think.

"There is a disconnect," said Keri Gans, about the study's participants. "It's surprising."

The real disconnect may be continuing to follow conventional wisdom on diet, fitness and health.

While a healthy body weight and BMI is a good thing, we should also be aware of blood sugar and insulin levels, as well as inflammation and triglycerides/HDL ratios.

Until Americans begin to take charge of their own health and stop relying on the agenda-driven government and media to give them information for living a healthy lifestyle, real overall change will be difficult to achieve.

Increase Your Energy and Endurance

"Dietary nitrate, such as that found in the beetroot, is thought to be a source for the biological messenger nitric oxide, which is used by the endothelium to signal smooth muscle, triggering it to relax. This induces vasodilation which increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure."

It takes about ¼ of a large red beet to produce one 4 gram teaspoon of RediBeets®. This 4 gram serving of beet juice has the equivalent amount of solids to about 4 ounces of beet juice.

Peak Endurance® contains 100 mg of beetroot juice per 8.33 gram serving or about 1/40th the amount of beet juice found in a 4 gram serving of RediBeets®.

These two products compliment one another nicely, in that they can both improve circulation, increase the oxygen available to our muscles and increase energy.

Another Reason To Consider Lifting Weights

"The law of energy balance says that if you’re in a surplus, excess calories will be sent into fat stores. That’s more or less true for a couch potato. The law of energy partitioning says that if you’re in a surplus, but you’re weight training, some of those excess calories will be sent to your muscles for repair and growth. Imagine two people following the same meal plan with a calorie surplus. One lifts weights and the other doesn’t. The one not lifting weights gets fatter. The one lifting weights not only doesn’t get fatter, he gets more muscular by eating more!

This partitioning of calories and nutrients is even more interesting in the other direction. Two people go on the same meal plan in a calorie deficit. One person is lifting weights and the other isn’t. They’re both going to lose weight. The real question is, what kind of weight will they lose? The person not lifting weights loses lean body mass. The person lifting weights loses fat and keeps his lean body mass - he migh…
