Obesity in America: Why Are We Gaining Weight?

"All you need to do to realize how much obesity there is out there is take a look at an old movie or an old TV show. Rent Dirty Harry (which I did not long ago) and watch it for a few minutes. All the people look like stick people, compared to people we see today.

The contrast is startling.

Or Google Woodstock and look at the images of all the folks there in 1969.

Granted most are young people, but compare them to young people today on college campuses everywhere. Although there are a few mildly overweight kids sprinkled here and there in the photos, most of them look like stick figures compared to today’s college students.

Why has this happened to us?" - Dr. Michael Eades, M.D.

Is This Making Healthy Choices?

When I was a kid, I used to eat this cereal, because I was told it was the "Breakfast of Champions."

Even Hulk Hogan used say to "Train, say your prayers, and eat your Wheaties."

How Much Do You Know About Your Health?

"The age of the Internet means patients can often know more about their health and health management than their doctors." - Dr. John Briffa, M.D.

"Do you have my juice?"

Our son, Brady, loves it when I pick him up from Vacation Bible School, the morning movies, or the house of a friend, and I have a cold sippy cup of BarleyLife® Xtra waiting for him.

He'll ask, "Do you have my juice?"

And I'll reply, "Yes."

Then he'll say, "Yay! Thank you!"

The next thing I know, it will all be gone!

Often, he will drink six or more of these sippy cups a day!

My wife and I are extremely thankful, because Brady is a picky eater. The only way he gets enough fruits and vegetables every day is by drinking his BarleyLife® Xtra.

Have You Been Taught Wrong About Health and Nutrition?

Today we all know smoking is wrong - seriously wrong.

Back then, though, no one knew any better.

Everybody thought there was no harm in smoking, so why not use a cartoon to market it on primetime television?

Are there things you've been taught about health and nutrition that were wrong?

What Is a Metabolic Advantage?

"When two groups of subjects both eat the same number of calories (but provided by diets of different macronutrient compositions) and maintain the same activity level, yet one group loses more weight than the other, the group losing the greater weight is said to have a metabolic advantage." - Dr. Michael Eades, M.D.

P.S. The evidence continues to show lower carbohydrate diets result in greater weight loss and less hunger, than calorie reduced diets.

More specifically, this type of diet for weight loss is said to provide a metabolic advantage.

Is Fat Your Friend?

Does eating fat make you fat?

Note: Healthy fats include avocados, whole eggs (grass-fed), fatty fish, almonds, coconut oil, full-fat yogurt, fatty meat (grass-fed/pastured animals), full-fat cheeses, dark chocolate (organic and high cocoa content), and grass-fed butter (Kerrygold brand).

It's also high in vitamin C and is a good source of iron and protein.

It supports bone health, benefits your heart, has a positive effect on blood pressure as well as cholesterol and more.

Cocoa LeafGreens™ is greens that taste like chocolate. What could be better than that?

P.S. Do your kids drink chocolate milk?

A microbiologist who used to work for a major milk manufacturer, revealed each week a fl…

The Beginning of Obesity

In the chart above from, something happened around 1980 to begin the obesity epidemic.

Despite the multitude of theories as to why this happened, there is agreement obesity levels did begin to increase around this time.

What Is The Cause of Heart Disease?
